Summer Holiday Make-Up: What To Pack

I am taking a lot of make-up with me on this holiday, but I would like to place on record that the reason for this is because I am in charge of doing Jules’ make-up on her wedding day and I would rather be over-prepared than under-prepared. Under normal circumstances I would hardly take anything – tinted moistuirser, mascara, blush and a lipstick, max. I never wear make-up on the beach and I can’t stand traipsing around a scorching hot city with a full face on – it makes me feel claustrophobic. But, be that as it may, these are…

The Perfect Travel Kit: NUXE Anti-Age Try Me Kit

When Edgars stopped stocking NUXE earlier in the year Jules and I were so disappointed – we are both huge fans of the brand, and the fact that we could buy it locally instead of having to get friends to bring it from abroad was a real treat. Of course NUXE is available online at Style36, but they don’t carry the full line, and I like to play around with products a little bit in-store before I commit to buying them. Anyway, fast-forward to August, and Jules and I were happily shopping in the V&A Waterfront when I happened to…

Nail Polish Infatuation: Chanel Le Vernis in Taboo

Isn’t it exquisite? Now, I’m not usually a fan of dark nail colours (on myself) and I’m not generally a huge fan of Chanel nail polish (it chips if you don’t use industrial-strength base and top coats) but Taboo cast a little spell over me and I couldn’t stop myself from buying it. The colour is a deep, red-toned purple with flecks of iridescent shimmer shot through it, and when the light catches your nails, the polish reflects shades of red, violet, pink and copper – it’s utterly mesmerizing. We know that Chanel sets the trend and other brands follow…

Trouble Sleeping? You need Moya.

I have been a bit stressed out recently and as a result I haven’t been sleeping well. I am trying not to take melatonin, which is my usual go-to solution when I can’t sleep, and so have been on the hunt for other alternatives. I have been dying to try the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, which is hailed as the most effective pillow spray around, but sadly it’s not available in South Africa (*feigns surprise*). The gods must have heard my prayers though because I have discovered a local alternative that has really knocked my socks off…Moya! Moya…

Jules’ Wedding Make-Up Trial

Jules is getting married in less than a month, and given that I (a brideslave) have been given the honour of doing her make-up on the big day, we thought we better get cracking and do a few test runs. As she is getting married in Greece, I need to make sure that the products I use are going to hold up in the heat – I don’t want her face to be slipping down her dress half-way through the ceremony! I have chosen a variety of primers and products with long-wearing formulations to ensure that she stays looking fresh…

Review: Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

My skin is normally quite dry, but this winter has been particularly brutal – my face has been flaking and peeling as though I’ve been sunburnt. Additionally, my office is rather chilly so I have had to have the heater on most days, which only aggravates the dryness – but as my grandmother always said: if you are cold you are either very poor or very stupid…I’d like to think I am neither, so the heater stays! I have a de-humidifyer in my office and I drink a shed-load of water throughout the day in an effort to stay hydrated,…

How To: Feline Flick Eye Liner

Sunday afternoon. Warm winter sunshine. Couch. British Vogue. That, ladies, is my version of heaven. Add Kate Moss to the mix and, well, I’m pretty much the happiest girl in the world. My number one girl crush (sorry VB) was featured in this month’s edition looking as gorgeous as ever, complete with retro two-pieces, statement jewelry and animal print. The make-up was very seductive – smokey kitten-flick eyeliner and mussed-up, Brigitte Bardot hair – no one dons either of those looks quite as effortlessly as Miss Moss (or Mrs Hince, rather) – the woman literally smoulders she’s so sexy. I…

July Favourites: Camilla

Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme I have been using this product religiously over the past month and can officially confirm that it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. I love the coverage it gives – it goes on sheer and glowy, yet it still manages to cover mild blemishes and imperfections. I do have to conceal more noticeable spots with my trusty Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, but I’m so well practiced that it only takes a matter of seconds (read: I have so many spots). As with other BB creams, the longevity isn’t the best, but I find that…

Review: Stila ‘In The Light’ Palette

I am a big fan of warm, neutral eye shadows, and I had planned on treating myself to the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette when I got to Greece in August. However, when Tori started raving about the Stila ‘In The Light’ palette, I knew my fate was sealed: ten glorious eye shadows and one eyeliner all encased in beautiful champagne-coloured packaging…sign me up!

Coming Soon: Korres

Last year I went on holiday to Greece with my family, and one of the hotels we stayed at stocked Korres products as the complimentary bathroom goodies. I knew a bit about this Greek pharmacy brand from my London days, but for some reason I never got around to trying them. Well, what I fool I was! After sampling a few of the products in the hotel, a new-found obsession was born: I made a point of visiting every Greek pharmacy I could find to stock up on shampoos, conditioners, body washes, lotions and make-up. We’re off to Greece for…
