Products I’ve Hit Pan On

Products I've Hit Pan On | All Dolled Up

Sounds a bit random, right – who wants to see a pile of beat-up old makeup? Well, the idea of this post is to show you the powder products I actually use the most and offers some insight into some of my favourite makeup items that don’t always make it onto the blog:

Three Ways to Depot & Store Your Lipsticks

How to Depot and Store Your Lipsticks | All Dolled Up

I am not a crafty person. I don’t like DIY projects, I could think of nothing worse than making a scrapbook and I hate de-potting my individual eyeshadows into palettes. I love the idea of being this organised and having everything in a neat colour-coordinated system but I don’t have the patience to actually do it. If I was a little bit more industrious though, I would depot my (fairly extensive) lipstick collection using one of these methods:

Introducing Skin Creamery: Local, Natural & Beautiful

Skin Creamery | All Dolled Up

Good quality products that are manufactured locally, formulated from natural ingredients and topped off with beautiful packaging are my idea of the beauty jackpot. Cape Town-based, mostly organic skincare brand Skin Creamery fits the bill exactly, with founder Hannah Rubin crafting a small, versatile range of luxury products without the use of harmful chemicals and synthetic fragrances.

What’s the big deal with Hydroxy Acids?

Diane Kruger by Patrick Demarchelier 1994

The past few years have seen quite a turnaround when it comes to facial exfoliation, as physical scrubs have completely fallen out of favour and been replaced by exfoliating acids. Physical scrubs are not only far too rough, leaving behind “microtears” in the skin’s surface, but the tiny plastic beads used in some products are very environmentally damaging as they wash into the sea and don’t dissolve. Chemical exfoliators, on the other hand, gently break down dead skin cells to reveal newer, softer, more even-toned skin. Within this category are two types of exfoliators: Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) AHAs work…

Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Cologne | All Dolled Up

Lush Jersey Bounce Shampoo I’m a devoted and longtime fan of Big shampoo for its ability to give my fine, thin hair lots of texture and volume. Jersey Bounce, the new kid on the block, is very similar in formulation; both contain plenty of coarse sea salt but the other ingredients differ slightly. While Big uses citrus oils, seaweed and coconut oil, Jersey Bounce is packed with honey, eggs (!), glycerine and olive oil to give the hair a little more nourishment. There’s no question that both are quite stripping (avoid if you have coarse or dry hair) but JB gives back…

Beauty Hoarder: Face Primers

Beauty Hoarder: Face Primers | All Dolled Up

I’ve mentioned a couple of times recently that I’m something of a hoarder when it comes to certain beauty categories. I tend to collect things like texturising sprays, makeup brushes, eyeshadow palettes and nail polish – and honestly most of them aren’t that different from each other. So I thought I would start showing you my stash in a series of posts, starting with face primers. Hydrating primers I mainly have two types of primers because my skin faces two challenges: oiliness and dehydration. Primers that battle the latter condition tend to be light and refreshing on the skin, and…
