Crisis Management: How To Cover An Enormous Spot

Powders

I woke up on Friday morning with a spot of such epic proportions that I was actually lost for words when I looked in the mirror (usually an expletive of some description springs from my lips in these situations). I took photos of it (for documentation purposes only, obviously), but I’m not ready to unleash them on you…however everyone who was in contact with me over the weekend will vouch that is was/is chronic. As I write this on Sunday night, it shows no signs of abating, so good coverage is my only option. I’m going to take you through…

Flawless Face Series Part II: Foundation

Flawless Face - Foundation

There are four basic formulations to choose from: powder, liquid, crème, and stick foundation (I could have included ‘mousse’ in here but I didn’t, because it’s crap). You need to consider the following when deciding which is best for you: Most importantly, what is your skin type? This is essential – is your skin oily, dry, combination, or sensitive?  You don’t need to pick just one option – I have an oily t-zone, dry cheeks and my skin is incredibly sensitive. What level of coverage do you need? Which texture do you prefer (ie matte, dewy, luminous, velvety)?  You should…

Hyaluronic Acid: What You Need To Know

Samantha - SATC

Acid? On my face? Computer says no! I know what you’re thinking, and yes, I also used to struggle with wrapping my head around the link between ‘acid’ and skincare – it automatically made me think of this infamous scene of Samantha from Sex and the City: But fear not, there are actually a load of different acids that are fabulous for your skin – glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and hyaluronic acid to name but a few. I have been having glycolic peels for the past couple of months to help ease congestion and even out my skin tone, and…

Face of the Day: Casual Friday

Face of the Day: Casual Friday

Happy Friday, beauties! I decided to keep my make-up very casual today, using only a few products. I evened out my skin tone with a bit of foundation, and concealed under my eyes, as usual. I then primed my eyelids and filled in my brows. I swept a minky/taupe shadow over my eyelids, and accentuated the outer corners with a grey shimmer. I applied a tiny bit of grey liner along the top lash line and blended it out so that the definition was very subtle. I then applied a nude eye pencil to the bottom water line to brighten the eyes,…

Boots Beauty Haul

Our darling friend Charlotte is arriving from London next week, so I took the liberty of putting in a sneaky Boots order. Full reviews to follow, but in the meantime, here’s a run down of what I ordered: Hydraluron Moisture Booster Hyaluronic acid is found in the body and is responsible for maintaining moisture levels in the top layer of the skin. We produce it naturally, but it becomes more difficult as we get older (sigh). If you use this serum underneath your moisturiser it will, over time, increase the skin’s hydration levels and minimize the need for frequent topical moisturing.…

Oscar Awards 2013: Top 5 Faces

Charlize Theron

The most highly anticipated event of the year took place in Los Angeles last night: the 85th Oscar Awards. As usual, we’re more concerned with the hair and make up than who-won-what. Here are our top 5 beauties. Jessica Chastain Kerry Washington Charlize Theron Olivia Munn Amanda Seyfried Images via 1, 2, 3

Camilla’s Haircare Favourites: Shampoos and Conditioners

Monica

Have you ever worked out how much time you’ve spent blow-drying your hair? No? Oh, I did, and guess what? It’s approximately 70 days…so far. 70 full days of my life spent sweating under a blazing hair dryer. Isn’t that staggering? You might be inclined to say “What a waste of time”, but if you saw the state of my natural hair you’d quickly change your tune – I assure you, it has been time well spent! Greasy roots, dry, split ends, poodle curls underneath and a gentle wave on top…why me?! I have spent countless hours and untold amounts…

Girl Crush: Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham - Harpers Bazaar

Just look at her…she’s magnificent! Let it be known that I have loved Victoria Beckham since I first clapped eyes on her in the Wannabe music video, and my affections have been constant and unwavering ever since (although I will concede that I was not a fan of her blonde crop). Now, it has been brought to my attention that some of you don’t share my love for VB and, quite frankly, I’m astounded! The woman is hilarious (watch “Victoria Beckham: Coming to America” immediately), immensely talented, produces beautiful children, and is married to David Beckham. I mean, what more…

Flawless Face Series Part 1: Primer

The most important decision I make on a daily basis is what to put on my face. I swear. I know it sounds trivial and shallow, but I know myself well enough to know that if I don’t look my best, I won’t feel my best – it’s that simple. I look at those girls who wear minimal/no make-up and I think “How? How do they do that?” – I wish I had that confidence. Anyway, I digress. For me, flawless skin is key. If you can get that right, the rest will fall into place without much effort. But…

Brand I Wish Was in South Africa: BY TERRY

By Terry Compilation

All hail Terry de Gunzberg! Once the creative director at Yves Saint Laurent, Terry was responsible for the creation of such iconic products as the Touche Éclat and the Teint Singulier. In 2000 she ended her collaboration with YSL to focus on the development of her own make up brand: BY TERRY. The main focus of BY TERRY is radiant skin, so every foundation, tinted moisturiser and concealer will leave you with a fresh and dewy complexion – your skin will quite literally be infused with luminosity. I must confess that I have only ever tried the foundations so I…
