America Haul Part One: The Make-Up

I’m back, beauties! And whilst I thought I’d done a lot of shopping, when I unpacked everything to blog about it, it turns out I didn’t do nearly as much as I thought I did. Which begs the question…where did all my money go?! I have split my America haul into two parts: make-up first, and everything else second, and what I thought I would do is give you a rundown of everything I bought, together with a brief “first impressions”-type review on all of them. Let’s get started, shall we?

Oh, Honey! Sweet Beauty Treats

Honey-based beauty products

Honey is having a real moment as a star ingredient in skincare and beauty products. It has long been acknowledged as having healing superpowers thanks to its natural anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, making it perfect for treating skin conditions like acne and eczema. As well as being a powerful antioxidant, it’s also extremely nourishing and moisturising, plumping up skin and improving elasticity. Ok, I’m sold! COMPETITION: Revlon Nearly Naked Make-up {CLOSED}

WIN a R2000 hamper from Revlon Nearly Naked

If you watched Camilla’s Fresh & Fabulous make-up tutorial on Tuesday, you will have seen her using Revlon’s new Nearly Naked foundation. Leading the way for other “drugstore” foundations, this product  is part of the new generation of lightweight formulas that melt right into the skin and blend out like a dream. Coverage is buildable without getting cakey, and the smooth, natural finish makes it invisible on the skin. If you’re a tinted moisturiser girl and find foundation intimidating, we strongly suggest you give this a whirl. It also gets bonus points for being super affordable – only R169! What a steal.…

Budget Beauty Basics: Face

Budget Beauty Basics for the Face - All Dolled Up

I, like many of you I’m sure, was completely inspired by Camilla’s post on the Top 10 Basics last week, and it got me thinking about what the alternatives are at “drugstore” prices i.e. stuff you can buy at Clicks or Dischem. So I’ve put together a list of beauty essentials that are easy to find and won’t break the bank. They will be split into two categories – face (today) and eyes & lips (Thursday). Enjoy!

What You Actually Need: The Top 10

Top 10 Basics

I often forget that not everyone has the same affinity for make-up that Jules and I have, and that for most people, the world of cosmetics is a daunting one. We recommend a lot of products on this blog, but the fact of the matter is, you don’t need them, strictly speaking. None of us need five mascaras or twelve foundations (*avoids eye contact*), but what we want them all the same. With that being said, there are certain products that are essential if you want to avoid looking like the crypt keeper – and so with that in mind,…

Revlon Nail Art Stencils

Revlon Nail Art Stencils

I came across these in Clicks a little while ago and I thought they were cute so I picked up the bow and moustache designs. Each little block is a self-adhesive stencil that sticks well to your nails and lets you quickly and neatly jazz up your manicure. I put them to the test using Essie Off the Shoulder as a base and Woolworths Metallic Champagne for the accent colour. My verdict: Fab and fun! Price: R29.95 Availability: Clicks, Edgars, Dis-Chem, some pharmacies Images by me.
