Quick Reviews #12

The Body Shop Spa of the World Dead Sea Salt Scrub The Spa of the World Collection launched a few weeks ago and when I popped into my local Body Shop, I made a beeline for the Dead Sea Salt Scrub. I have always been a huge fan of Body Shop body scrubs (in fact, they are the only ones I use) – so I knew this latest offering was going to be a slam dunk. The combination of the Dead Sea minerals and coarse salt crystals create the perfect consistency for a deliciously gritty exfoliator. This rougher scrub suits…

Review: Africology Renewing Facial Therapy Serum

I haven’t dedicated a standalone post to a skincare item for as long as I can remember. Today that changes, because the Renewing Facial Therapy Serum from Africology is just that good. We were sent it at the beginning of August as part of a Women’s Day celebration and I have been using it 5-6 times a week ever since (all proceeds from the sale of this serum during the month of August were donated to Babies Behind Bars – a non-profit organisation that assists mothers in prison whose children are born during their sentence). First off: who is it best for/what does it…

Review: MAC Warm Neutrals Eye Shadow Palette

If you follow us on Instagram you would have seen that I decided to treat myself to the MAC Warm Neutral Eye Shadow Palette a few weeks ago. This was not a spur of the moment decision, oh no, I had been wistfully staring at it for over a year before I took the plunge. The palette contains 15 warm toned (as the name would suggest) eye shadows, four of which are permanent and four of which are repromoted. There are three matte shades and twelve glitter/shimmer shades, all of which attracted me like a little magpie!

Dischem, Clicks and Foschini Haul

I had been itching to do a “drugstore” haul for the longest time, so when payday rolled around I decided to head to Canal Walk (all the best shops are there, even though getting there after work can be painful) and I even managed to convince my trusty sidekick Jules to accompany me. Here’s a quick whistle-stop tour of what I got (including a mini-review of the products I have already tried). Avène Rich Compensating Cream. I had been researching new day cream options and decided on this one from Avène as it fitted the “hydrating and mild” bill! I have…

Review: Heavenly Spa, The Westin

A few weeks ago Jules and I were invited to enjoy a treatment at the Heavenly Spa at the The Westin, followed by a meal in their ON19 restaurant and a night in one of their suites. I don’t think we have ever accepted an invitation so quickly in our lives – as two busy working women, the thought of a pampering night away was positively dreamy. Jules and I both selected the Aspire massage, which is a 60 minute treatment (there is also a 90 minutes option) which uses aromatherapy oils specially tailored to how you want to feel. We…

Asian Skincare Haul

If you follow us on Twitter and Instagram you will have seen a post a few weeks ago featuring my haul from Peach and Lily, an Asian beauty and skincare site. I have been interested in Korean skincare for a while (all thanks to this post from She’s In The Glow), but felt quite overwhelmed by the product selection and didn’t quite know where to start. Enter, Peach and Lily. I first learned about Peach and Lily through Into The Gloss when they did a feature on the founder, Alicia Yoon (who, bizarrely, did an MBA at Harvard with a high school…

May Favourites: Camilla

NYX Butter Gloss in ‘Angel Food Cake’ and ‘Tiramisu’ I am so thrilled that these are finally available at Clicks! If the ‘gloss’ part deters you, please don’t let it – this is not a traditional, sticky gloss. No, no. This is the perfect hybrid lip product: the subtle sheen of a gloss, the consistency of a cream, the hydration of a balm and the pigmentation of a traditional lipstick. They wear exceptionally well, and you can reapply all day without any gross build-up or worrying about the product sitting in dry patches or flakes. It’s kind of perfecting in the…

Upcoming Launches from Bourjois and Max Factor

Last week I attended the Cosmetiques de France press day to learn about all the upcoming launches from Max Factor, Bourjois, Bioderma and Noreva. There are going to be a lot of exciting new products hitting the shelves over the next couple of months, and I even though some aren’t going to be available for a while, I wanted to tell you about them anyway. I have decided to split the launches into two posts (Max Factor and Bourjois first, Bioderma and Noreva second) and I’m (rather selfishly) only going to tell you about the launches that I found most exciting. Bourjois Rouge…

Some New Skincare from Dermastore

A few weeks ago I wrote about the launch of Dermastore, an online skincare boutique founded by the Webster family (read the post here). If you read that post you will no doubt be aware of how fantastic I think the concept is, and I really hope that you have all visited the site and, at the very least, completed a Facial Skincare Assessment. I recently ordered a Neostrata moisturiser from Dermastore, and then Dr Webster’s wife, the lovely Sandy, sent me a few bits from Exuviance to try (Sandy has worked alongside Dr. Webster for the past 22 years and has…
