MAC Impassioned vs. Bourjois Rouge Edition 11

Bourjois Rouge Edition no. 11 (L) and MAC Impassioned (R)

There few products that brighten up the face quite like a bold, fuchsia lipstick and MAC Impassioned has long been my favourite of these. The Amplified (i.e. highly pigmented) formula is smooth and creamy and the colour is as opaque as they come. It’s one of the best lipsticks in my collection and one that I wish I wore more often. I noticed the other day that I had another bright pink lipstick that was very similar and I thought I would compare them. It’s Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick in no. 11 “Fraise Remix” and the colours are indeed quite…

Living Proof Prime Style Extender

Living Proof Prime Style Extender

Hair primer? Whatever next? When I first read about hair primers I promptly dismissed them as a load of rubbish. That was, however, until I started reading rave reviews on all of my favourite beauty blogs – it was then that my ears pricked up and I decided to investigate. I asked Julia to bring back some Living Proof Prime Style Extender from London so that I could see if hair primers are all they’re cracked up to be. What is it? It’s a style extending hair primer. It promises to extend hair styles for twice as long, thereby enabling…

Review: Stila Kitten Eyeshadow

Stila Kitten eyeshadow

Before Stila arrived in South Africa, the only thing I knew about the brand was their famous eyeshadow in the shade called Kitten which is beloved the world over. It’s one of those shimmery champagne shades that works well on its own or as a base for building a more complex eyeshadow look, and suits a broad range of skin tones. It was the first item I bought from the range (and also bought one for Camilla for Christmas) and here are my thoughts:

Lipgloss Love: Chanel Glossimer in Wild Rose

Chanel Lipgloss

As you will no doubt have realised by now, over at All Dolled Up we’re more into lipsticks than glosses. However, there are times when a girl just needs a bit of gloss…enter Chanel Glossimer in Wild Rose. It’s a beautiful pinky colour with subtle flecks of shimmer, it’s the quintessential “my lips but better” shade. It looks quite pigmented in the bottle, but is far softer on the lips – very elegant and sophisticated. The texture is lovely – not sticky or tacky (my worst – Juicy Tube, I’m looking at you). It glides onto the lip easily and…

Review: OPI Chip Skip Nail Lacquer

Chip Skip

After reading Charlotte’s guest post on the key to a chip free mani, I decided that it was high time for me to investigate this nail dehydrator business. I picked up a bottle of OPI Chip Skip Nail Lacquer in the hopes that it would help prolong the life of my manicure. Here’s the rundown: How does Chip Skip work? It works by dehydrating the surface of your nail by absorbing any surface moisture/oil. By eliminating that layer of moisture or oil, it allows the polish to really adhere to your nail and stops it from chipping as easily. How…

March Favourites: Jules

1. Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream in Medium I’ve been testing some “drugstore” BB creams over the past couple of months but the problem is that the minute I tried this one, I didn’t want to use any of the others! I’ll go into a more in-depth review when I do the full post but for now let me say that it has a light texture with medium coverage and an easy-to-blend formula. The finish is satiny and far less greasy than the Garnier equivalent. 2. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant I received a sample of this from a friend in the industry…

Beauty Spotlight: Real Techniques Make-up Brushes

By now you probably know that Camilla and I are huge fans of the gals at Pixiwoo. Sam Chapman, one of the sisters that make up the dynamic duo, has her own line of high-quality make-up brushes under the name Real Techniques. Sam has been a pro make-up artist for over 15 years and, together with sister Nic, boasts nearly one million YouTube subscribers. People like me eagerly await their twice-weekly uploads for great make-up tutorials and product reviews. With all this experience and beauty knowledge, Sam’s range of brushes was always going to be fantastic and I have not…

Review: Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm Cream SPF 25

Dr Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm

This was one of the products that arrived a few weeks ago, courtesy of our dear friend Charlotte who came to visit from London. Dr Jart+’s selection of BB creams have been bestsellers in their home country of Korea since their launch in 2004. BB creams were initially created to combine skincare and makeup  – they were designed to help improve the skin’s texture and to aide the recovery of scarring following surgery. There are 4 in the range, catering to different skin types and concerns. I went for the Water Fuse which claims to be oil free yet hydrating,…

Review: Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara

Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume mascara

Julia and I aren’t exactly what you would call faithful when it comes to mascara brands – we are constantly on the look out for the next best thing. My two favourites, up until now, were Maybelline Great Lash and L’Oreal Extreme Million Lashes. Julia’s was Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara. But that’s all changed…we’ve both fallen hook, line and sinker for the Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara. This mascara promises the most extreme volume (hence the name) and “wraps lashes in instant, jaw-dropping drama”. As usual, Julia and I did our reviews separately and did not consult each other.…
