Review: Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Makeup

A few weeks ago I popped into Edgars and picked up a sample of the Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Make Up, as I had been wanting to try it for a while. As I’ve mentioned previously, you can visit any Estée Lauder counter and they will happily give you a sample of any foundation which should last you up to seven days (why don’t more brands do this?). I have played around with this foundation a lot recently, and I must confess, I am seriously impressed.

Beauty Haul: End of the Spending Freeze!

Shopping Spree

So, last Friday marked the end of my three-month-long spending freeze; 90 days of torturous new-product-bans after a rather expensive trip to the UK in April. To celebrate, I went and blew my monthly budget at the Waterfront (well, what did you expect?!) and here’s what I bought: Clarins I’ve been wanting to try the Instant Eye Make-up Remover Lotion (125ml for R250) after seeing it recommended on a few trusted blogs for fast removal of stubborn mascara. I have NO patience when it comes to getting off my eye make-up and I invariable scrub at my eyes with whatever…

June Favourites: Jules

June Favourites

My five favourite beauty products from the month of June and mini reviews of each after the jump. Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner Sounds weird, right? Well, it is a bit weird but only because there isn’t anything else like it currently on the market (although Nivea are launching a very similar version soon). It’s basically a thick, deliciously rose-scented cream that you rub over your wet skin in the bath or shower, and then rinse off, leaving behind a very moisturising residue that keeps your skin soft and supple all day long. The reason I love it so much…

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer My love for Laura Mercier, and her world-famous Secret Camouflage Concealer in particular, has been well-documented. I have yet to find a concealer that does as good a job as this one does – it covers anything and everything and has the most incredible staying power, even without a setting powder (no mean feat). The unique two-toned camouflage system allows you to customize the colour to perfectly match your skin tone, thereby ensuring that you have an exact colour match all year round. Sadly not available in SA yet (my boyfriend brought this back for me…

Estée Lauder 7 Day Free Foundation Trial

Estee Lauder

Did you know that you can visit any Estée Lauder counter and they will give you a free foundation sample that will last you for up to seven days? I only found that out this week (tut tut)! I have been wanting to try Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Makeup for ages, but I can’t stand my foundation being applied in store, under those harsh fluorescent lights, with the massive pressure to buy straight away. Dreadful. Fast forward to payday, and I was happily dropping cash left, right and center in Red Square when I spotted the Free 7 Day Foundation Trial…be…

Flu Beauty: A Helping Hand

Flu Beauty

I am battling the flu at the moment and it is awful – pounding head, runny nose, high temperature…I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I can’t afford to take time off work at the moment, so I’ve had to ramp up my beauty routine to make sure that I don’t arrive at the office looking like death. Here’s my pick of the best products to help you look better than you feel…

Charlotte Tilbury’s Make-up House of Rock ‘n’ Kohl

Charlotte Tilbury's Make-up House of Rock 'n' Kohl

London department store, Selfridges & Co., is arguably the world’s finest beauty destination, so it seems only appropriate that they should play host to a one-of-a-kind beauty event in partnership with Charlotte Tilbury, one of the world’s best make-up artists. Conceived as an early promotional event for Charlotte’s much-anticipated make-up line which is launching in Selfridges later this year, the beauty festival ran for the past five days, drawing hundreds of beauty lovers to the iconic Oxford Street location. The event centred around a custom-built concept store where visitors could get a ‘Tilbury Transformation’ makeover with members of Charlotte’s personal…

Lisa Eldridge’s Foundation Course

Lisa Eldridge

Make-up artist extraordinaire and one of our biggest girl crushes, Lisa Eldridge, recently created a series of videos to help women with the common challenge of selecting the right foundation. The videos cover basic information about choosing and shopping for foundation, advice on picking the right shade for your skin tone, product recommendations and application techniques. Having fallen victim to the curse of the artificial department store lighting and buying the wrong shade of an expensive foundation myself, I can’t tell you how invaluable these videos are. Here is one of the videos but you can click here to see them…
