Hidden Gems of the Drugstore

Hidden gems of the drugstore | All Dolled Up

Beauty blogs and YouTube channels all over the world are bursting with great, affordable makeup and skincare product recommendations. Some of those products get raved about to such a degree that they achieve cult status (think Real Techniques brushes, Maybelline Great Lash mascara and Carmex lip treatment) but others are much less likely to get a rave review online. I rifled through my collection and picked out the unsung heroes that I think deserve more notice: Skin There are two primers that I use regularly (see my entire primer collection here) that are so good, I’d pick them over the…

Currently Obsessed With: Revlon Colorstay 2-in-1 Compact

Revlon Colorstay 2-in-1 Compact Makeup | All Dolled Up

Revlon recently released their best selling Colorstay foundation in a compact form, and I am into it! Having never used the liquid version of Colorstay, I can’t draw any comparisons, but what I can tell you is that the compact version is a lovely foundation in its own right. I have traditionally steered clear of compact foundations for fear of them being too drying for my skin, however this offering from Revlon had me pleasantly surprised by just how creamy and moisturising it was. That being said, the finish isn’t dewy – it’s more of demi-matte, so if you want glow, you will…

April Favourites: Jules | All Dolled Up

I tried out quite a few new things this month and there were a lot of hits, so here’s the lowdown. Shower I feel about shower gels the same way I feel about facial cleansers: getting clean is such a boring task that to keep me interested, they have to feel amazing and/or smell delicious otherwise I’ll move onto something else. Tori introduced me to the Creightons brand which she found in Pick ‘n Pay and so far I’ve ploughed through a bottle of Coconut & Honey and now I’m onto the zingy Lime & Grapefruit plus I have Vanilla &…

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow in ‘Beach Bronze’ After seeing Bobbi Brown Pro Hannah Martin using this in her most recent video, I promptly went out and bought it (the power of YouTube!). This is the closest locally available dupe that I have found to my beloved Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in ‘Spice’ – it has the same smooth, yet iridescent brown tone that gets my pulse racing. The texture is a little bit stiff to start with (unlike the Tom Ford version, which has a really creamy, almost mousse-like consistency), but once you warm it up…

Glowing Winter Skin // Achieving the Impossible

Do you want to glow like J-Lo? I got you. Here is my fail-safe way to get truly glowing skin this winter: Skin prep is of supreme importance. I like to incorporate an oil of some kind, just to get a little bit of slip on the face. The consistency of my beloved Environ Hydrating Oil Capsules are a little bit too thick for this purpose, so instead I have found that mixing together my SKOON Concentrate Squalene with two pumps of the new Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Serum works really nicely and creates just the right amount of glow.…

The Beginner’s Budget Beauty Bag

Beginner's Best Budget Beauty Bag

It’s easy for us to forget that many of the things we take for granted, like knowing where to apply bronzer (on the high points where the sun hits your face), which drugstore brand makes the best bases (Bourjois) and how to make a red lip last all night (use a matching lipliner, apply a few thin layers and blot in between), aren’t so simple for some women. Camilla and I live, eat and breathe makeup and skincare but for lots of you, the industry and the related media is so confusing that you don’t know where to start. To…
