Quick Reviews #2

Following on from Julia’s Quick Reviews a few weeks ago, here are my (very quick) thoughts on a couple of new products I’ve been trying recently…

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eye Color in Medium

The reason I gravitated towards this was because of the felt-tip/nib applicator – it reminded me of the Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil which I adore (and which has now sadly run out). Sadly, unlike with S&G, this brow pen takes ages to build up a decent amount of colour in order for me to fill in the gaps in my brows (when I use this I find that I have to spend at least 2 minutes doing my brows, which is a ridiculous amount of time). The colour is a bit strange too- it’s a mix between a light brown and a mossy green (really), and whilst it looks great when I run it through my brow hairs, when I try and elongate my brows (ie by colouring in the bald patches), the greenish tone becomes quite evident. I will, however, give credit where credit is due: the formulation is impressive and it stays put all day, even on the bald patches.

MAC Cremesheen lipstick in Peach Blossom

I bought this after reading a post on Vivianna Does Makeup. Cremesheen is my favourite MAC lipstick finish – the creamy (as the name suggests) consistency is really lovely and keeps the lips nice and moisturised. I would describe this colour as a soft rose pink, a great “my lips but better” shade. The coverage is spot-on too – not too sheer, not too opaque, just perfect. When I wear this I feel put-together, but not ‘done’ in any way, if that makes sense. Thank you, Anna, for yet another fantastic recommendation!

Chanel Hydramax + Active Lip Care

This was a birthday present from my darling friend Rosie and I haven’t been able to stop using it since I received it! This balm is quite deceptive in that it is so lightweight, I feared it would be more of a ‘style-over-substance’ product, but I am pleased to report that it really is fantastic! The formula is quite solid, but the warmth of your finger will soften it a little and you’ll be left with a really silky, buttery texture that melts into the lips, leaving them supple and hydrated. And, as with all Chanel products, the packaging is incredibly chic – I love taking this little jar out of my bag to casually apply it in front of other people and watch their faces turn green with envy.
