Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer

I have read a lot about Smashbox primers over the years but for some reason I never got around to buying one until recently. As you will no doubt know by now, my skin has gone a bit haywire so I have had to make the most of every cosmetic option available. This primer came home with me last week after a little (read: large) V&A Waterfront spending spree and it has really won me over.

Review: Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Makeup

A few weeks ago I popped into Edgars and picked up a sample of the Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-In-Place Make Up, as I had been wanting to try it for a while. As I’ve mentioned previously, you can visit any Estée Lauder counter and they will happily give you a sample of any foundation which should last you up to seven days (why don’t more brands do this?). I have played around with this foundation a lot recently, and I must confess, I am seriously impressed.

Jules’ Experience: Kiehl’s Change Your Skin Challenge

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Midnight Recovery Eye

My experience with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate was, overall, very positive. As I mentioned in my previous post on the subject, I had already been using MRC a couple of nights a week in rotation with my Alpha-H Liquid Gold and a regular night cream. The idea of the challenge was to use it every single night for 28 days and so that’s what I did, adjusting my bedtime beauty routine accordingly.

Beauty Haul: End of the Spending Freeze!

Shopping Spree

So, last Friday marked the end of my three-month-long spending freeze; 90 days of torturous new-product-bans after a rather expensive trip to the UK in April. To celebrate, I went and blew my monthly budget at the Waterfront (well, what did you expect?!) and here’s what I bought: Clarins I’ve been wanting to try the Instant Eye Make-up Remover Lotion (125ml for R250) after seeing it recommended on a few trusted blogs for fast removal of stubborn mascara. I have NO patience when it comes to getting off my eye make-up and I invariable scrub at my eyes with whatever…

Frank Fowden Hairstylists: A Cautionary Tale

I am thirty years old and therefore old enough to know better. But sometimes you look down at your hair and it’s so split and damaged that a force bigger than you compels you to have it cut immediately. This happened to me last Friday afternoon. I usually see Andret at Mooi, who is the best hairdresser in the world. Fact. Unfortunately (for me), it seems that every woman in Cape Town agrees with me, so it’s near on impossible to get an appointment unless you book weeks in advance. My broken barnet needed tending to, and sharpish, so I…

How to Clean Your Face with Isabelle Bellis

Isabelle Bellis

I happened upon this video series on Into The Gloss recently and thought you guys might enjoy it. Isabelle Bellis is a quintessentially chic Parisian living in New York, where she runs a unique skin clinic from the penthouse floor of a townhouse on a quiet, residential block on the Upper East Side. Her luminous skin and sing-song French accent have resulted in a girl crush of note, but she also really knows her stuff! You can read more about her in this interview with Elle magazine or visit her website. Part One: Cleansing Part Two: Moisturising Image via.

My Introduction to !QMS Medicosmetics

A couple of weeks ago the lovely ladies at Little Black Book PR got in touch with me to see if I would be interested in going to meet with their local !QMS Medicosmetics expert, Anel Engelke, to find out a little more about the brand and learn about how the products work. I had been wanting to try QMS for a while now as a couple of my friends use it and absolutely rave about it (you can read our friend Natalie’s post on QMS here), so I happily accepted and booked Anel’s first available appointment.

June Favourites: Jules

June Favourites

My five favourite beauty products from the month of June and mini reviews of each after the jump. Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner Sounds weird, right? Well, it is a bit weird but only because there isn’t anything else like it currently on the market (although Nivea are launching a very similar version soon). It’s basically a thick, deliciously rose-scented cream that you rub over your wet skin in the bath or shower, and then rinse off, leaving behind a very moisturising residue that keeps your skin soft and supple all day long. The reason I love it so much…
