Small Things That Make a Big Difference | All Dolled Up

The subject of beauty can be a daunting topic for many – what makeup to wear, how to apply it, which skincare to use and how to style your hair. If you’re one of those people who doesn’t know where to start, here are a few quick tips that will get you going in the right direction. They are simple to do, requiring little to no skill, and don’t take a lot of time. They also happen to make a big difference so you get plenty of bang for your buck: Cleaning your face properly The very least you can…

Fresh and New: Smashbox

Smashbox South Africa | All Dolled Up

Camilla and I are both longtime fans of Smashbox so you will have seen the brand’s name many times on this blog. We’ve mentioned their amazing range of primers in monthly favourites, product reviews and video tutorials, included Photo Matt Anti-Shine in our beauty wishlist, and banged on about the Brow Tech To Go which is the best eyebrow pencil on the local market, IMHO. So we were understandably thrilled to crack the nod to a showcase of their newest products, which I attended with my main girl, Miss Emma Jude, last week. The event was fittingly held at Roodebloem Studios…

The Wedding: Make-up Tutorial

On Monday you would have seen all the “getting ready” photos from the wedding day and today we have a video tutorial for you that shows an everyday version of the look I wore. It’s a very classic soft eye with a neutral lip that can be amped up for a special occasion, or toned down for day-to-day wear. Enjoy!

Summer Holiday Make-Up: What To Pack

I am taking a lot of make-up with me on this holiday, but I would like to place on record that the reason for this is because I am in charge of doing Jules’ make-up on her wedding day and I would rather be over-prepared than under-prepared. Under normal circumstances I would hardly take anything – tinted moistuirser, mascara, blush and a lipstick, max. I never wear make-up on the beach and I can’t stand traipsing around a scorching hot city with a full face on – it makes me feel claustrophobic. But, be that as it may, these are…

July Favourites: Camilla

Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme I have been using this product religiously over the past month and can officially confirm that it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. I love the coverage it gives – it goes on sheer and glowy, yet it still manages to cover mild blemishes and imperfections. I do have to conceal more noticeable spots with my trusty Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer, but I’m so well practiced that it only takes a matter of seconds (read: I have so many spots). As with other BB creams, the longevity isn’t the best, but I find that…

Morning-After Make-up

Morning-After Make-Up | All Dolled Up

This past Saturday was my hen party, a Clueless-themed bash of epic proportions, expertly organised by Camilla and the other bridesmaids. It goes without saying that it was a day filled with lots of fun, laughter, good food and plenty of champagne. After 14 solid hours of heavy duty girl time, I was understandably exhausted the next morning when I awoke early to attend my niece’s second birthday party. You can only imagine what state I was in when I stumbled out of the shower and prepared to make myself presentable, and quickly decided that I would need some industrial-strength…

What To Pack: Girls Weekend Away

This past weekend a group of us girls made our way down to Grotto Bay Private Nature Reserve to celebrate our darling Natalie’s 25th birthday (sweet man, she’s still so tiny!). It was a weekend filled with good food, great wine, lots of laughing and, of course, elasticated waistbands. For weekends like this, minimal/no make up is the order of the day, but since the whole weekend was being documented and I didn’t want to look like a complete dog, I had to pack a few basics. Here’s what made the cut…

Jules’ Face of the Day #1

Products used

Today I have a couple of meetings so I have a little more make-up on that I usually do when I work at home all day. Skin is smoothed over with a sheer coverage BB cream and I’ve used a cream blush in peachy tones (which works with my lipstick of choice) to keep the look fresh and dewy. A bit of light contour and highlight is thrown in and eyes are softly defined with a mid-tone brown cream shadow, a couple of coats of black mascara and a metallic bronze eyeliner in the waterline. A light dusting of translucent…
