Travel Beauty: Essential Make-up Kit

By the time you read this, I will freezing my perfectly pedicured toes off in London while scouring the high street for beauty bargains. I thought you might like to see what make-up I’m taking with me that pretty much comprises all my favourite and most-used products at the moment. I plan to buy more stuff than I can carry when I’m there so I’ve probably packed far more than I really need but at least I know I have all my essentials in case of any beauty emergencies! Products: Skin Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream Benefit High Beam Clinique Airbrush…

March Favourites: Jules

1. Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream in Medium I’ve been testing some “drugstore” BB creams over the past couple of months but the problem is that the minute I tried this one, I didn’t want to use any of the others! I’ll go into a more in-depth review when I do the full post but for now let me say that it has a light texture with medium coverage and an easy-to-blend formula. The finish is satiny and far less greasy than the Garnier equivalent. 2. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant I received a sample of this from a friend in the industry…

Beauty Spotlight: MAC 217 Blending Brush

MAC Cosmetics

I was reminded this week of how wonderful this make-up brush is while on the hunt for a birthday present for my friend Donné. I was trying to think of some essential products that I use on a daily basis to give her as part of a little beauty basics kit, and suddenly the MAC 217 popped into my head. I simply couldn’t live without this magical little blending tool and here’s why: The fine, natural-fibre bristles are perfectly shaped into an oval point that makes softening the edges of your shadow a breeze. It can be used to add…

February Favourites

Sorry this is so late guys! We shot it at the end of February but then had problems getting it up on YouTube. Here are our February Favourites nonetheless. Camilla’s Favourites: Eucerin Hyaluronic Filler My skin has been so parched lately – I felt like no matter how much water I drank or how much moisturiser I put on, my skin was still dry and flaky. I had been dabbling with the idea of hyaluronic acid for a while, so this product couldn’t have been recommended to me at a better time. In short, I love it – for the…

Crisis Management: How To Cover An Enormous Spot

Powders

I woke up on Friday morning with a spot of such epic proportions that I was actually lost for words when I looked in the mirror (usually an expletive of some description springs from my lips in these situations). I took photos of it (for documentation purposes only, obviously), but I’m not ready to unleash them on you…however everyone who was in contact with me over the weekend will vouch that is was/is chronic. As I write this on Sunday night, it shows no signs of abating, so good coverage is my only option. I’m going to take you through…

Flawless Face Series Part II: Foundation

Flawless Face - Foundation

There are four basic formulations to choose from: powder, liquid, crème, and stick foundation (I could have included ‘mousse’ in here but I didn’t, because it’s crap). You need to consider the following when deciding which is best for you: Most importantly, what is your skin type? This is essential – is your skin oily, dry, combination, or sensitive?  You don’t need to pick just one option – I have an oily t-zone, dry cheeks and my skin is incredibly sensitive. What level of coverage do you need? Which texture do you prefer (ie matte, dewy, luminous, velvety)?  You should…

Face of the Day: Casual Friday

Face of the Day: Casual Friday

Happy Friday, beauties! I decided to keep my make-up very casual today, using only a few products. I evened out my skin tone with a bit of foundation, and concealed under my eyes, as usual. I then primed my eyelids and filled in my brows. I swept a minky/taupe shadow over my eyelids, and accentuated the outer corners with a grey shimmer. I applied a tiny bit of grey liner along the top lash line and blended it out so that the definition was very subtle. I then applied a nude eye pencil to the bottom water line to brighten the eyes,…

Jules’ Face of the Day #1

Products used

Today I have a couple of meetings so I have a little more make-up on that I usually do when I work at home all day. Skin is smoothed over with a sheer coverage BB cream and I’ve used a cream blush in peachy tones (which works with my lipstick of choice) to keep the look fresh and dewy. A bit of light contour and highlight is thrown in and eyes are softly defined with a mid-tone brown cream shadow, a couple of coats of black mascara and a metallic bronze eyeliner in the waterline. A light dusting of translucent…

Summer Essentials 2013

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado: I used to suffer from a dehydrated under-eye area without really knowing it, and found that concealer always looked cakey on that part of my skin. I tried this stuff a couple of months ago and haven’t looked back. The formula is packed with avocado oil and shea butter, and goes on creamy and feels firming without being greasy. The best part is that concealer now goes on smoothly and evenly – result! Price: R280 (14ml) E45 Endless Moisture Daily Care: I generally can’t deal with heavy, creamy body lotions and it’s a non-negotiable especially…

NEW: MAC Archie’s Girls Collection

MAC Archie's Girls

The latest limited edition MAC collection is about to hit the shelves in the form of Archie’s Girls, an homage to the classic comic cuties Betty and Veronica. Packaged in specially-designed cases, the range features two contrasting colour collections – sweet, girl-next-door pinks and peaches for Betty and racy reds, blues and purples for Veronica. Products include lipstick, lipgloss, nail lacquers, loose pigment, blush, face powder, eyeliner, mascara and assorted tools and accessories *breathe*. I’m personally looking forward to the following items from the collection: 1. Flatter Me Pearlmatte Face Powder (golden peach base with coral hearts) 2. Comic Cutie…
