Real Techniques South Africa | All Dolled Up

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past couple of months, you might not be aware that Real Techniques makeup tools have FINALLY launched in South Africa! *cheers* This news brings us great happiness and we are sure it is the same for many of you. But which ones do you need? Well, here’s a breakdown of my favourite five brushes from the brand to get you started: Blush Brush I think this was one of the first Real Techniques brushes I ever bought, and it’s probably the one I recommend most often to other people. It’s…

Review: Africology Renewing Facial Therapy Serum

I haven’t dedicated a standalone post to a skincare item for as long as I can remember. Today that changes, because the Renewing Facial Therapy Serum from Africology is just that good. We were sent it at the beginning of August as part of a Women’s Day celebration and I have been using it 5-6 times a week ever since (all proceeds from the sale of this serum during the month of August were donated to Babies Behind Bars – a non-profit organisation that assists mothers in prison whose children are born during their sentence). First off: who is it best for/what does it…

YouTube Crush: Sharon Farrell

Sharon Farrell - Sharon the Makeup Artist

Hi, my name is Jules, and I’m a YouTube addict. I’m subscribed to over 60 channels and still get excited every time I refresh my feed and see new videos available to watch. I’ve learned that there are a few content creators who get my pulse racing quicker than others, and Sharon Farrell is one of them. As I described her in this “Latest YouTube Discoveries” post from last year: This feisty Irish make-up artist living in Sydney is my NBF, she just doesn’t know it yet. She does great hints & tips videos, product reviews and step-by-step tutorials (especially…

USA Beauty Haul

You may be confused by the title of this post, given that I have not been to America this year (I will leave that to Jules). However, my mule (read: boyfriend) has been there for approximately seven weeks, and as emotional compensation I am allowed to order whatever make-up my heart desires and he will bring it home for me. Lush. Let’s dive right in, shall we: Lorac PRO Palette: I have wanted this palette for the longest time, but it was only after watching Sharon Farrell’s latest video showing how she created 5 different looks with this palette, that I decided…

How to Cover Dark Under-Eye Circles

How to cover dark under eye circles

This post is inspired by an email we received from a reader who wanted some advice about the best way to cover her dark under-eye area. It’s something that we cover briefly in most of our video tutorials but perhaps it begs a more detailed explanation – it is an art, after all! And as much as beauty and skincare brands would love you to believe it, there is no one miracle product that will do the trick. Instead, I rely on a combination of three makeup items to banish my bags – here’s how it works: Step 1: Corrector…

Review: MAC Warm Neutrals Eye Shadow Palette

If you follow us on Instagram you would have seen that I decided to treat myself to the MAC Warm Neutral Eye Shadow Palette a few weeks ago. This was not a spur of the moment decision, oh no, I had been wistfully staring at it for over a year before I took the plunge. The palette contains 15 warm toned (as the name would suggest) eye shadows, four of which are permanent and four of which are repromoted. There are three matte shades and twelve glitter/shimmer shades, all of which attracted me like a little magpie!
