April Favourites: Jules

April Favourites

So all my favourite and most-used products this month are from overseas but I had to be honest and include them because otherwise this wouldn’t really be a list of my monthly favourites! They’re all things I bought in London and have used pretty much every day since. By the way – do you guys want me to do a haul and show you all the stuff I bought or does that sound boring? Let me know in the comments. Mini product reviews for each of these after the jump.

Cruelty-Free Beauty: Hair Products

Cruelty Free Haircare

Last in our list of cruelty-free beauty products available in South Africa (we did cosmetics and skincare earlier in the week) is hair products! Tarah, one of our readers, asked us on Twitter for some help finding shampoos, conditioners and styling products that weren’t tested on animals, besides the obvious ones like LUSH and The Body Shop. It was that tweet that inspired this whole series so thanks Tarah! There are quite a few cruelty-free haircare brands out there and Wellness Warehouse is a real goldmine. Unfortunately it’s difficult to find a good variety of reasonably priced, bunny-friendly haircare in the…

Here is my round-up of the five best recent beauty reads: Water Color Hydrating Hair Masque from The Beauty Department Absolutely love the idea of using these moisturising wash-out colour conditioners! An Afternoon With Skincare Guru Caroline Hirons from Liana Beauty You probably already know that we worship the ground that Caroline Hirons walks on, so this comprehensive list of her best beauty tips is basically the gospel as far as we’re concerned! Got Milk? Living Dairy Free from Lips So Facto A fascinating post about how giving up dairy affected Megan’s skin. If you’re interested, Ruth from A Model Recommends…

Beauty Oils

Beauty Oils

The nourishing properties of natural oils in skincare and beauty products have long been known, but it is only recently that oils have become a nightstand staple. The new generation of beauty oils are lightweight, hydrating and absorb ultra fast, making them the perfect multi-taskers for hair, skin and nails.

Living Proof Prime Style Extender

Living Proof Prime Style Extender

Hair primer? Whatever next? When I first read about hair primers I promptly dismissed them as a load of rubbish. That was, however, until I started reading rave reviews on all of my favourite beauty blogs – it was then that my ears pricked up and I decided to investigate. I asked Julia to bring back some Living Proof Prime Style Extender from London so that I could see if hair primers are all they’re cracked up to be. What is it? It’s a style extending hair primer. It promises to extend hair styles for twice as long, thereby enabling…

Thirty Tips for Thirty Years

Birthday

So, I recently survived my 30th birthday (which wasn’t nearly as traumatic as I expected it to be) and I started thinking about all the beauty advice I’ve been given/read about/learnt first hand over the past three decades. With that in mind I decided to put together a piece outlining the 30 best tidbits in celebration of 30 years of beauty love! This is a long post, so maybe go make yourself a cup of tea and get settled in.

Gadget Lust: BaByliss Pro Perfect Curl

Beauty guru Sali Hughes says that this product has changed her life – a glowing endorsement if ever there was one! As a result, this nifty gadget has taken the top spot on my must-have list. It works by sucking the hair into a ceramic curl chamber where it is softly held and heated from all directions. The hair is not put under any tension and it takes just seconds to form a perfect curl. It has an audio beep indicator to remind you exactly when to release the hair so you won’t be left with frazzled locks. Now all…

Beauty Evolution: Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad 2004

I’m not afraid to admit that I am a huge fan of Lauren Conrad. I was an avid watcher of Laguna Beach and The Hills, and have followed her career as she branched out into fashion design and writing. Her two non-fiction books, Lauren Conrad Style and Lauren Conrad Beauty, are firm favourites of mine and a great addition to any girl’s book collection. She also runs an awesome website called The Beauty Department with her glam squad, hair stylist Kristen Ess and make-up artist Amy Nadine, and a lifestyle blog at LaurenConrad.com. I love her modern classic style and…
