It’s almost too easy to be a fan of Estée Lauder. When a company creates such iconic products as Advanced Night Repair, Double Wear foundation and MagnaScopic mascara, quality becomes an absolute given. So we were understandably rather excited to be invited to spend an afternoon with the brand at the Mount Nelson to learn about some of their new launches.
The most exciting addition to their product line-up has to be the launch of the fragrance Modern Muse. Inspired by the duality of the modern woman – both soft and feminine while being strong and powerful – it’s the type of crisp, feminine fragrance that suits all ages and types of women. Described as “an alluring contrast of sparkling florals and sleek, sensual woods”, it is a light, summery fragrance peppered with notes like jasmine, honeysuckle and lily but tempered by the creaminess of amber, vanilla and musk. I’m not usually one for such verbose descriptions of fragrance (not least of all because my sense of smell is somewhat diminished – but that’s a story for another day) but I feel quite surprised by my attraction to this scent. It is absolutely beautiful and well worth a trip to the counter for a sample. I believe it will appeal to all kinds of different women and would make a failsafe gift – something for your Christmas list for sure!
If you can tear yourself away from the fragrance selection, Estée Lauder also have some new make-up in The Metallics range in the Pure Color line. As one might imagine, the collection features lots of glossy shine in the form of Gelée Powder Eyeshadow, High Intensity Lip Lacquer, Nail Color and Vivid Shine Lipstick, all in fantastic seasonal shades. We were generously given a bottle of Modern Muse along with a selection of the new products to try; my favourites being the lip gloss in Hot Cherry (a bright, juicy red) and the nail polish in Rose Gold. We also received a tube of Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup which I wore on my wedding day and is the most lightweight yet long-lasting, truly invisible foundation I’ve ever tried.
As Estée Lauder’s Creative Makeup Director, Tom Pecheux says, “It’s nice to look pretty, but it’s much better to look amazing.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.
You can shop Estée Lauder at the usual places (Edgars, Red Square, Foschini, Truworths & Stuttafords) or try their nifty online shop.
