I’ve got a bumper edition for you today, featuring a couple of products that I bought on my travels and some new launches from local brands too. Let’s get into it:
Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-Aging Foundation SPF 30 PA++ I was a huge fan of the Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Nude foundation, so I was really excited when their latest offering landed on our desk. This anti-aging skincare-foundation hybrid is enriched with a powerful antioxidant which, when used daily, repairs the skin’s appearance and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also contains hydra-pigments to instantly blur imperfections, while helping to seal in moisture for a radiant look. Elizabeth Arden even goes so far to claim that you can sleep with it on to reap added skincare benefits, with studies…
WASS Skin Food Summer Body Balm* If you read Jules’ post about her favourite local, natural skincare products, then you’ll already be familiar with the brand WASS. WASS uses locally sourced organic and natural ingredients to create a range of ‘skin food’ inspired by the seasons. The products don’t contain any nasties, so no parabens, sulphates, unnatural preservatives, silicones, dyes, synthetic perfumes or fragrances. This ‘summer’ balm comprises of a blend of botanical oils to nourish and restore dry and damaged skin, and it will also assist with the healing of scars, and the treatment of burns or eczema. I love the colour and scent –…
A brief round-up of six new products that Jules put to the test recently, including an eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay and Chanel’s new long-wearing nail polish formula.
Almay Age Essentials Makeup SPF 15 in ‘140 Light/Medium Warm’ This latest foundation from Almay contains a built-in moisturiser, as well a combination of collagen, hyaluronic acid and peptides. The purpose of adding these skincare ingredients is to provide a solution for busy women who are looking to maximise what their foundation can do for them ie offer skincare benefits at the same time. The combination of ingredients contained in this foundation promises to smooth the skin, relax expression lines, boost hydration and restore the skin’s luminosity. This reminds me a lot of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation, a…
Environ Alpha Hydroxy Cream This is the latest addition to my Environ arsenal and I am very much enjoying it. I wanted to incorporate more exfoliation into my routine, so my facialist, Nina, recommended that I start using the Alpha Hydroxy Cream two/three nights a week. It contains a combination of fruit acids to help promote the skin’s natural exfoliation process, and it’s suitable for problem and sensitive skins (mine) as it decongests without irritation. I have been using it twice a week for the past three months or so, and I’m really pleased with the results: I do feel like…
Coverderm Complete Care CC Cream for Face The first thing to note about this CC cream is that it doesn’t provide much in the way of coverage, and that’s because it’s more of a treatment product than anything else. Here is what it claims to do: Contains 12 super-powered active ingredients that evens and brightens skin tone, nourishes, moisturises and soothes the skin. It protects against UVA & UVB rays and treats wrinkles, blemishes and irritation and controls sebum, tightens pores and treats facial redness. Oil free, lightweight, suitable for all skin types, and available in 4 natural shades, including…
I’m not sure what it is about this time of year but there seem to be tons of new skincare launches happening. We’ve been sent a few things to try recently and *spoiler alert* they’re all awesome:
Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Stick Trio Jules picked these up a few months ago during our V&A Waterfront Beauty Haul and has been raving about them ever since. I decided to give them a go recently, and I am just as smitten as she is. The set contains three matte crayons: a contour shade, a bronzing shade and a highlighting shade. The contour shade is particularly lovely as it contains no red/orange tones whatsoever – it’s a brown/taupe shade which mimics the shade of a natural shadow, thereby allowing you to sculpt your face in a subtle, realistic way. The bronzing shade is…
Elizabeth Arden Grand Entrance Mascara* In a word: brilliant. This mascara has absolutely blown me away – so much so that it currently holds the top spot on my Favourite Mascara List (previous title holders have included the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume Mascara and the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara). The design of the wand is really interesting – it has a gentle c-shaped bend with a spiky nodule (thats an official term, by the way) on the end. The motivation behind this design is to enable you to get maximum volume,…
