First Impressions: Drugstore Makeup Primers

Jules puts three budget-friendly makeup primers to the test and uncovers a dupe for a cult classic!

Products mentioned:

Rimmel Fix & Protect Makeup Primer
L.A. Girl HD Pro Primer
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Eyeshadow Primer

I tested the face primer again a couple of days after filming this video, using the same foundation and other makeup, and on quite a hot day. I wore the foundation for more than 12 hours, and again I couldn’t see any difference in performance. I wasn’t any less shiny on the primed half of my face, and my makeup didn’t wear any differently, so again a kind of non-result. For that reason, I can only really recommend it as a nice SPF to wear under makeup.

I also tested the Wet n Wild eyeshadow primer against the Urban Decay Primer Potion and couldn’t tell the difference at the end of the day – neither eye creased or faded at all. I’m even more enthusiastic about recommending the Wet n Wild one as a great budget alternative to the cult classic if you suffer from oily eyelids.

There’s not much to update – we pretty much both still do our hair in the same way as we used to!

I’d love to see a blush face-off, I’ve tried so many and still haven’t found any that blow me away (particularly nice natural shade wise)

Blush is a bit too subjective to compare them this way, but if you’re looking for a good quality, natural, everyday blush then I would highly recommend Benefit “Dallas”, Max Factor “Nude Mauve” and H&M “Tawny Peach” (if you can get your hands on it).
