MAC Impassioned vs. Bourjois Rouge Edition 11

Bourjois Rouge Edition no. 11 (L) and MAC Impassioned (R)

There few products that brighten up the face quite like a bold, fuchsia lipstick and MAC Impassioned has long been my favourite of these. The Amplified (i.e. highly pigmented) formula is smooth and creamy and the colour is as opaque as they come. It’s one of the best lipsticks in my collection and one that I wish I wore more often. I noticed the other day that I had another bright pink lipstick that was very similar and I thought I would compare them. It’s Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick in no. 11 “Fraise Remix” and the colours are indeed quite…

Beauty Oils

The nourishing properties of natural oils in skincare and beauty products have long been known, but it is only recently that oils have become a nightstand staple. The new generation of beauty oils are lightweight, hydrating and absorb ultra fast, making them the perfect multi-taskers for hair, skin and nails.

Review: Stila Kitten Eyeshadow

Stila Kitten eyeshadow

Before Stila arrived in South Africa, the only thing I knew about the brand was their famous eyeshadow in the shade called Kitten which is beloved the world over. It’s one of those shimmery champagne shades that works well on its own or as a base for building a more complex eyeshadow look, and suits a broad range of skin tones. It was the first item I bought from the range (and also bought one for Camilla for Christmas) and here are my thoughts:

Save R20 on Maybelline Eye Products

Maybelline

From today until 15 May 2013, Maybelline is offering R20 off all eye products. Here’s my pick of the best items to get your hands on: 1. I’ve always been a huge fan of Maybelline mascaras and I’m particularly keen to try the new Volum’ Express The Rocket formulation. 2. A good eyebrow pencil is a make-up kit essential as far as I’m concerned and I’ve heard only good things about the Master Shape Brow Pencil. 3. The Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr cream gel shadows are known for their smooth application and incredible, crease-free staying power. 4. If you’ve always wanted to…

My Skincare Routine: Natalie

Natalie Roos

Today we’ll be continuing our series documenting the skincare routines of other people (see the previous post here), in order to give you some ideas for how to deal with any skin concerns you might have that are similar. Natalie is a professional make-up artist who also works in social media, and has a fab lifestyle blog called Tails of a Mermaid. She is very knowledgeable about beauty and make-up, and has written a brilliant tutorial on the correct way to clean your make-up brushes. Here’s how she looks after her skin (which always looks amazing by the way): “I…

Make-up Storage Heaven at Pax3D

Pax3D Make-up Storage

As my obsession grows and I accumulate more and more beauty products, I find my bathroom shelves overflowing with bottles and tubes. With only so much space available, I am forced to move my make-up collection to my bedroom, leaving some extra space for my ever-expanding skincare stash and haircare hoard. I decided to pop into Pax 3D in search of some storage units, and in particular a lipstick holder like this one that I had seen on another beauty blog. It didn’t for one minute occur to me that they might actually have one so you can imagine my…

Favourite Five: Make-up Removers

I get bored quickly, especially when it comes to products I use every day. I like to switch up my routine and try different types of makeup removers, especially since it’s a relatively tedious task to begin with and if I’m using something new then I tend to have a little more patience with the process. I firmly believe in always taking ALL your makeup off before bed so I can’t be bothered with cleansers that don’t do the job properly. Here are my top picks of the ones that do.
