I have had a long-standing love affair with red nail polish –I am rarely seen without a slick of crimson on my nails. As a child I remember watching my godmother, Annie (the most glamorous woman in the world), lying by the pool in heels and a one-piece, doing her nails. And they were always red – this is wear it all started.
For me, real nails are just so incredibly chic – they are the quintessential finishing touch. They have the power to transform any woman into a veritable glamourpuss. Here are my top 5 favourite reds of all time:
OPI Big Apple Red
A warm classic red that epitomizes old Hollywood glamour. If you’re looking to make a statement, this is the shade for you – it’s a beautiful, bold red. Winner of various beauty accolades, and with good reason.
Essie Silken Cord
Julia spoke about this in her March Favourites – it’s an absolute classic. For those who don’t want a full-on red, but are after something a little more subtle, Silken Cord is for you – it’s the perfect mix between pink and red.
Ciaté Boudoir
I love this warm, glossy red. The formulation is very creamy and pigmented – you could easily get away with one coat. The brush is also perfect – you can coat the whole nail with one stroke. Very high-shine finish.
OPI The Thrill of Brazil
Inspired by the vibrant colours of Rio de Janiero, this orange-red polish will have you feeling festive in no time. I wore this on my nails solidly for about 6 months when I was living in London – it’s impossibly gorgeous. Possibly my favourite colour of all time.
Essie Limited Addiction
A classic, deep red- it looks super glossy and rich on the nail. Must be worn whilst relaxing in front of a roaring fire with wine in hand. Obviously.
I would just like to say that the picture really doesn’t do the colours justice – it makes them all look exactly the same – I’m sorry! I promise in real life they do look very different – you’re going to have to just take my word for it.
