My Skincare Routine: Camilla

skincare routine

I have been trying a number of different products recently and I feel like I’m onto a good thing with my current routine, so I thought I’d share it with you. To recap, my skin is incredibly dry, and I suffer with rosacea (which I keep under control with antibiotics) and blemishes. Lately I have also been experiencing congestion on my cheeks which I think is largely down to exercising with make-up on (naughty) – I am trying to remember to take my foundation off now before I hit the gym.

In the evenings I start off by double-cleansing with my one true love, Cetaphil. If I have been wearing a lot of make-up or feel like my skin is a bit grubby, I will bust out my Clarisonic for a little deep-cleaning. I use my Clarisonic very rarely at the moment because I have introduced a few new exfoliating products and I don’t want to end up over-exfoliating and stripping my skin.  Next up, I sprinkle a few drops of the Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner onto a cotton pad and sweep it across my face. This is a gentle exfoliant and has helped ease congestion, and I really do feel like it’s evened out my skin tone. Following on from that, I squirt two pumps of my Clarins Double Serum into my hands and massage it all over my face and neck. The consistency of this serum is heavenly, it smells delicious and, most importantly, it works! My skin is glowing and radiant, and it just keeps getting better and better with each passing day – I have never experienced results like this. As far as night cream goes, I am a big fan of the Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Night Cream and I can highly recommend it for girls who suffer with dryness like me. It is packed with hyaluronic acid that locks in moisture and keeps your skin hydrated while you sleep. For under the eyes, Bioderma Sensibio Eye Contour Gel is the order of the day – I gently pat the cream around my eye using my ring finger and leave it to sink in. For any pesky blemishes lurking around, I apply a little La Roche-Posay Effeclar A.I. and that usually puts them to bed fairly quickly.

Once a week I will do a more intensive exfoliation using glycolic acid. After I’ve cleansed, I spray some Alpha H Liquid Gold onto a cotton pad and go to town. I don’t apply serum or moisturiser afterwards, I just leave it to slough through all the dead skin cells and I wake up with skin that looks remarkably brighter.

In the mornings, I do a quick cleanse with Cetaphil, followed by a generous layer of Hydraluron. Once that has sunk into my skin, I slap on a hefty amount of HydraQuench Cream from Clarins to keep my skin’s thirst quenched throughout the day. Lastly, some more Bioderma around the eyes, and I’m prepped and ready to start applying my make-up, which is my favourite part of my day.

Et voilà! And that’s it – quick, simple, effective. I’d love to hear about your skincare routines and which products you rate.

Hi Camilla .. would you recommend Alpha H Liquid Gold?

    • Camilla (author)

Hi Leila. Yes, I would definitely recommend it. If you’re not using any other exfoliating products, you could get away with using it maybe two/three times a week. Be sure to spray it on a damp cotton pad the first couple of times you use it though, as your skin might take a little while to get used to it. Please keep me posted on how you get on!

I’m sure Camilla will chime in here too, but Alpha-H Liquid Gold is one of the best things that ever happened to my skin. It has improved its texture and tone, and made most of my physical exfoliants totally redundant. Highly, highly recommend!

Great to hear, just waiting to use up my NeoStrata Ultra Smoothing cream and then will try to get my hands on a bottle of Liquid Gold. Thanks to you both for your feedback, really appreciate it!!

Have you girls tried the LaMelle Correctives Cathepzyme? (bit.ly/14zNG8F)
I would be interested to hear how it compares to Alpha-H. I think its a fantastic product for exfoliation, and can be bought right here in RSA.

Been hearing lots of good things about LaMelle – we’ll try and get out hands on some and give it a go! Any other products in the range that you would recommend?

I am an absolute LaMelle fangirl. I use the entire Clarity range, twice-monthly Beta peels at Skin Renewal, and the Nourish Multi-Active suncream is the BUSINESS for wearing everyday.
