Travel Beauty: Essential Make-up Kit

By the time you read this, I will freezing my perfectly pedicured toes off in London while scouring the high street for beauty bargains. I thought you might like to see what make-up I’m taking with me that pretty much comprises all my favourite and most-used products at the moment. I plan to buy more stuff than I can carry when I’m there so I’ve probably packed far more than I really need but at least I know I have all my essentials in case of any beauty emergencies! Products: Skin Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream Benefit High Beam Clinique Airbrush…

March Favourites: Jules

1. Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream in Medium I’ve been testing some “drugstore” BB creams over the past couple of months but the problem is that the minute I tried this one, I didn’t want to use any of the others! I’ll go into a more in-depth review when I do the full post but for now let me say that it has a light texture with medium coverage and an easy-to-blend formula. The finish is satiny and far less greasy than the Garnier equivalent. 2. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant I received a sample of this from a friend in the industry…

Flawless Face Series Part II: Foundation

Flawless Face - Foundation

There are four basic formulations to choose from: powder, liquid, crème, and stick foundation (I could have included ‘mousse’ in here but I didn’t, because it’s crap). You need to consider the following when deciding which is best for you: Most importantly, what is your skin type? What level of coverage do you need? Which texture do you prefer (ie matte, dewy, luminous, velvety)?  You should…

Jules’ Face of the Day #1

Products used

Today I have a couple of meetings so I have a little more make-up on that I usually do when I work at home all day. Skin is smoothed over with a sheer coverage BB cream and I’ve used a cream blush in peachy tones (which works with my lipstick of choice) to keep the look fresh and dewy. A bit of light contour and highlight is thrown in and eyes are softly defined with a mid-tone brown cream shadow, a couple of coats of black mascara and a metallic bronze eyeliner in the waterline. A light dusting of translucent…

Summer Essentials 2013

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado: I used to suffer from a dehydrated under-eye area without really knowing it, and found that concealer always looked cakey on that part of my skin. I tried this stuff a couple of months ago and haven’t looked back. The formula is packed with avocado oil and shea butter, and goes on creamy and feels firming without being greasy. The best part is that concealer now goes on smoothly and evenly – result! Price: R280 (14ml) E45 Endless Moisture Daily Care: I generally can’t deal with heavy, creamy body lotions and it’s a non-negotiable especially…
