Quick Reviews #35: Cleansers

The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleanser You may be unfamiliar with The Inkey List as this brand isn’t available in South Africa yet, but it’s one of the new generation of super-affordable skincare ranges inspred by The Ordinary that focus on basic, hero ingredient formulations. Where I think The Inkey List has improved on The Ordinary’s concept is they have kept the product line small, focused and easy to understand, unlike DECIEM’s offering which is now completely overblown. I bought a few things from Cult Beauty the last time I was in the UK and this was one of the…

Quick Reviews #34: New Skincare

Lamelle Correctives Recharge CE Product overview: This is a high-potency vitamin C serum which contains 20% L-Ascorbic Acid; the purest and most active form of vitamin C. This is combined with 1% alpha-tocopherol (Vitamin E) in a stabilised, anhydrous (water-free) base. Read this to learn more about the importance of antioxidants like vitamin C in your skincare. My experience: As someone with pigmentation, you know I love a vitamin C serum and as a huge fan of the Lamelle range, I was excited to put this through its paces. In terms of texture, it’s unlike most of the other vit…

Quick Reviews #33: Concealer Showdown!

We’ve recently had a couple of new concealers land on our desks, so I thought I would take the opportunity to give you a rundown of the pros and cons of each. I tested each of these under the eyes only, so I can’t vouch for how they address redness/blemishes (my skin has been very well behaved recently, which is great for me, but not so great for the purposes of this review). Ready? Maybelline Fit Me Concealer Despite launching internationally light years ago, these have only recently landed on our shores, and I am sure I speak for all…

Quick Reviews #31: Glossier

Glossier Review - All Dolled Up

I don’t like it when Camilla goes away – I feel like I’m missing a limb. Of course, I can’t complain because I’m out of the country for a good few months every year but I reserve the right to have double standards. So I was thrilled when she and Emma returned from gallivanting in Paris earlier this month but secretly also really excited that they brought some Glossier treats with them! Frankly, it’s the least she could do for abandoning me for 10 days.

Quick Reviews #30 // Some New Summer Body Products

Summer is just around the corner, and the thought of having to bare my winter limbs has me in a bit of a panic. I loathe lying in the sun/going to the beach, so I have to fake it when it comes to tanning/not looking like Powder. Today I’m going to run you through some new additions which I think are brilliant: a wash-off bronzing lotion, a body butter that smells like summer in a tube, and a body oil so glorious, you will never want to wash it off. CHANEL N°5 Fragments D’Or* Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?…

Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control Concentrate* You will by now have seen nothing but rave reviews for the 8th generation Double Serum, and, spoiler alert: you’re about to read another one! Having never used the previous iterations of Double Serum, I can’t make any comparisons between older and newer versions. However, what I can tell you is that the 8th generation release is one of the finest products I have used this year, if not the finest. It’s worth the hype, worth the price and it’s something I can see myself having in my routine for many moons to…

Quick Reviews #28 // New In From Elizabeth Arden

FourEver Bronze Bronzing Powder in ‘Medium’ I have been using this non-stop since we received it a few weeks ago, and I absolutely adore it. It creates a healthy, bronzed glow with a lovely, luminous finish that makes you look like you’ve just been on holiday. I swirl my brush around all four shades and the combined colour is perfect for my skin tone, but you can use obviously the shades separately if you wish (which makes it very handy for travelling as you don’t need to schlep a load of different products around with you.) It takes a lot…

Some (very) quick reviews on a few drugstore launches… LÓreal False Lash Superstar X Fiber Mascara This latest release from LÓreal promises both extreme length and extreme volume using not one, but two, separate brushes. The first brush, the primer, is designed to thicken the lashes and add volume. The second brush, which contains fibres, extends the length of the lashes. Apparently if you want a: Natural False Lash Look: Apply one coat of the primer, then one coat of the fibers; or Volume False Lash Look: Repeat application 3 times; or X-treme False Lash Look: Repeat application 5 times (who…

Quick Reviews #26

Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Angel Mascara* I was very skeptical about this when it arrived – the unique brush shape puzzled me and I wasn’t sure how effective it was going to be. Maybelline claims that the push-up wing brush sweeps lashes to the side, while lifting and plumping from the roots, creating a cat-eye effect. It does a good job of separating and lengthening, and although it didn’t particularly volumise my lashes, I still really like it. I would wear it on my more minimal make-up days as the effect is quite natural (for me), but I am confident you…

Quick Reviews #25:
Some New Skincare

Quick Reviews 25 | All Dolled Up

Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream Kiehl’s make some of the best skincare on the market in my opinion (Ultra Facial Cream, Midnight Recovery Concentrate and Creme de Corps to name a few of my favourites) so I’m always interested when they launch a new product. The Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream is designed to help the skin “resist hydration loss while also aiding in recovery from existing skin damage” and is formulated from 99.6% naturally-derived ingredients, minus any parabens, mineral oils or synthetic colours and fragrances. The texture is fairly thick and the first few times I used it I didn’t…
