Full Face of First Impressions: Drugstore Edition

Jules puts a bunch of affordable makeup through their paces and finds LOADS of amazing new goodies in the process!

Products mentioned:

L.A. Girl Pro Coverage HD Longwear Illuminating Foundation in “Nude Beige” (R175) – Lasted very well but I think a full pump is too much product because it did start to settle into fine lines and sit a bit on the skin after a while. I used it again the following day with about half as much product and it looked much better after a few hours.
Benefit Erase Paste in “Medium” (R365)
L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer in “Light Ivory” (R59.95) – No visible creasing or separation, performed beautifully.
L.A. Girl Pro Powder HD Setting Powder (R59.95) – T-zone got a little shiny later in the day (more than it usually does with my MAC powder) but when I use a mattifying primer with the same foundation/concealer/powder combo, it solves the problem.
L.A. Girl Shady Slim Brow Pencil in “Taupe” and “Blonde” (R85)
L.A. Girl Beauty Brick Blush Collection in “Glow”* (R99.95) – all the powders lasted well and didn’t fade throughout the day.
Maybelline Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter in “200 Medium Nude Glow”* (R169) – absolutely love this product!
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Eyeshadow Primer (R129.95)
Rimmel Magnif’eyes Eye Contouring Palette in “Keep Calm and Wear Gold” (R159.90) – no fading, no creasing – super impressed!
Essence The False Lashes Mascara* (R59.95) – stayed put all day without smudging or flaking, even on the lower lashline. I wore it another day with no eyeshadow and it transferred a tiny bit to my browbone but nothing major (way less than YSL The Shock Mascara with transfers really badly on me).
Nyx Slim Lip Pencil in “Natural” (R69.95)
Nyx Butter Gloss in “Tiramisu” (R120)
L.A. Girl Pro HD Setting Spray (R89.95) – can’t really tell if it had much of an effect – I need to test it more thoroughly. I do think it’s pricey for the amount you get.

I love when you guys do drugstore editions, because I also just feel that some products I cannot justify the price. I’ve already written down ALL the LA Girl products that I want to try, I’ve got the oiliest skin ever, so I’m excited about that setting powder.

Won’t you please consider doing something like Sharon Farrel where she shows the make-up look before she takes it off at night? I’d love to see how long the products lasted.

    Thanks for the great post!
    xx

We’d love to do that but unfortunately we don’t film with artificial lighting so we can’t do check-ins after dark. We can’t really film at all after about 4pm which is especially tricky in winter!

Aaaah that doesn’t matter, I still love your posts! It’s always informative because a load of us don’t really experiment with different brands and colors.

Hope you load more videos soon!

Hi – where did you buy the LA Girl foundation – I don’t see it at Dischem ?

You might have to try another (bigger) branch – I found it at Dischem in Cavendish Square, Cape Town
