Nanoblur: What You Need To Know

Nanoblur

Nanoblur was created by Indeed Labs, the same company responsible for our beloved Hydraluron. It claims to be an instant skin perfector – it transforms your skin by smoothing the look of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores and uneven texture and tone. Sounds appealing, doesn’t it?

The instructions state that you can apply it in one of four ways:

– If you’re going to use it without make-up, apply Nanoblur after your moisturiser.
– If you’re going to use it with liquid foundation, apply Nanoblur after your foundation.
– If you’re going to use it with powder, apply Nanoblur before applying the powder.
– If your skin is very dry, you can mix Nanoblur with your moisturiser.

After application you should see effects similar to these:

Nanoblur before and after

Seems simple enough, right? Wrong. My first foray into Nanoblur was a total flop – I applied it over my foundation in circular motions and it just ended up smearing everything all over the place. On my second attempt I tried to adopt a more gentle approach by patting it over my foundation instead of rubbing it in, but I still wasn’t seeing the desired effects – it just seemed to sit on my skin and made everything look dry and patchy. I started getting frustrated – I even complained to Jules that I’d never had to work so hard to like a product. I decided I would give it one last try before it got relegated to the bin: mix it in with my moisturiser and then smooth my foundation on top. Ding, ding, ding, jackpot! My skin looked absolutely flawless, almost airbrushed. My skin tone was even and glowing, my pores were invisible and everything just looked beautifully soft, and, well, young! Success!

The magic is in the method – mixing Nanoblur into your moisturiser gives it that little bit of slip that I think it needs to make subsequent foundation application easy. If you apply the Nanoblur between your moisturiser and foundation, it will stick and become extremely difficult to blend. Bear in mind though that even if you mix it with moisturiser, Nanoblur still grips to your foundation incredibly quickly, so you don’t have a lot of play time. I applied my foundation with a flat brush instead of a blending brush – I stroked the foundation onto my face in downward motions and this seemed to work best for me.

All in all, I highly recommend this product, as long you ignore the instructions and find a way that works for you. Normally I would have lost interest after the first and second attempts and thrown it away, but I’m so glad I persevered because it really is a great addition to my make-up arsenal.

It retails for R299 and is available exclusively from Clicks.

Looks great, but is it also a product for long term care and prevention in terms of smoothing lines and such or just a quick fix?

Hi Annika. Definitely just a quick fix – it works on a purely superficial level and offers no long-term benefits. I still highly recommend it though – it’s great for those occasions where you want to look really flawless.
