Icon: Debbie Harry

My dad (an avid reader of All Dolled Up!) has a considerable crush on Debbie Harry, the lead singer from Blondie and all-round punk legend. Although now in her late 60s, she was a beauty and style icon when the band first became famous, with her scruffy, two-tone blonde hair and heavy black eye make-up. I’m sure my dad would argue that she is still an “extremely beautiful girl with a natural but devastatingly sexy look” (as described by photographer Brian Aris) but I’m more of a fan of her early days as a fixture at Studio54, muse for Andy Warhol and Rolling Stone cover girl. Her look was stunning and original with an effortlessness few of us can pull off.

Here is a selection of photos from Aris’ collection currently on show at Proud Chelsea in London and combines portraits from Blondie’s heyday, colourful shots taken in her New York apartment and a selection of Polaroids.
