June Favourites: Jules

June Favourites

My five favourite beauty products from the month of June and mini reviews of each after the jump. Lush Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner Sounds weird, right? Well, it is a bit weird but only because there isn’t anything else like it currently on the market (although Nivea are launching a very similar version soon). It’s basically a thick, deliciously rose-scented cream that you rub over your wet skin in the bath or shower, and then rinse off, leaving behind a very moisturising residue that keeps your skin soft and supple all day long. The reason I love it so much…

Fresh & Fabulous Make-Up Tutorial

Ever woken up after a big night, looked in the mirror and wanted to scream/cry? Me too. With this in mind, I chose a particularly hungover morning to film this tutorial to show you how to make a scary face look bearable again. You’re welcome! Before you watch it, there are a few things I would like to bring to your attention: “Trusty” is my favourite word. The colour of my foundation looks completely mismatched in this video, but I assure you it’s just the lighting. In real life I didn’t look like the Oros man. I do eventually cover…

What You Actually Need: The Top 10

Top 10 Basics

I often forget that not everyone has the same affinity for make-up that Jules and I have, and that for most people, the world of cosmetics is a daunting one. We recommend a lot of products on this blog, but the fact of the matter is, you don’t need them, strictly speaking. None of us need five mascaras or twelve foundations (*avoids eye contact*), but what we want them all the same. With that being said, there are certain products that are essential if you want to avoid looking like the crypt keeper – and so with that in mind,…

Flawless Face Series Part III: Concealer

Concealer Must-Haves

Concealer helps to even out your skin tone, cover blemishes and disguise dark circles. It comes in various forms – pens, creams, sticks – you will need to play around a little and see which formulation you like best.  I like to separate concealers into two categories: those for the under-eye area, and those for blemishes/the rest of the face. I always use two different concealers for these areas and I don’t like to interchange them. I like to use stick or a cream concealer for blemishes, and a light reflective concealer for under the eyes – the reason being…

NEW: MAC Temperature Rising Collection

MAC Temperature Rising Collection

MAC’s latest collection, Temperature Rising is now in-store. Our sale spy at the V&A Waterfront spotted the store being stocked with all manner of gorgeous new goodies, so if you like the look of this collection, I suggest you check it out. I was bitterly disappointed to miss out on buying ANYTHING from the Archie’s Girls collection because I made the mistake of going to the store at 11am on the day of the launch and it was sold out already. Extreme sadface. Here’s the official collection description: “MAC captures the steamy nocturnal scene in a vivid summer colour collection.…

MAC Impassioned vs. Bourjois Rouge Edition 11

Bourjois Rouge Edition no. 11 (L) and MAC Impassioned (R)

There few products that brighten up the face quite like a bold, fuchsia lipstick and MAC Impassioned has long been my favourite of these. The Amplified (i.e. highly pigmented) formula is smooth and creamy and the colour is as opaque as they come. It’s one of the best lipsticks in my collection and one that I wish I wore more often. I noticed the other day that I had another bright pink lipstick that was very similar and I thought I would compare them. It’s Bourjois Rouge Edition lipstick in no. 11 “Fraise Remix” and the colours are indeed quite…

Beauty Oils

Beauty Oils

The nourishing properties of natural oils in skincare and beauty products have long been known, but it is only recently that oils have become a nightstand staple. The new generation of beauty oils are lightweight, hydrating and absorb ultra fast, making them the perfect multi-taskers for hair, skin and nails.

Thirty Tips for Thirty Years

Birthday

So, I recently survived my 30th birthday (which wasn’t nearly as traumatic as I expected it to be) and I started thinking about all the beauty advice I’ve been given/read about/learnt first hand over the past three decades. With that in mind I decided to put together a piece outlining the 30 best tidbits in celebration of 30 years of beauty love! This is a long post, so maybe go make yourself a cup of tea and get settled in.

Favourite Five: Make-up Removers

I get bored quickly, especially when it comes to products I use every day. I like to switch up my routine and try different types of makeup removers, especially since it’s a relatively tedious task to begin with and if I’m using something new then I tend to have a little more patience with the process. I firmly believe in always taking ALL your makeup off before bed so I can’t be bothered with cleansers that don’t do the job properly. Here are my top picks of the ones that do.
