The Preview: Elizabeth Arden UNTOLD ABSOLU

I recently attended the exclusive preview of the new Elizabeth Arden fragrance, UNTOLD ABSOLU, the latest addition to the UNTOLD family of fragrances. The event was glamorous and refined, and, I think, captured the essence of the fragrance perfectly. We were treated to a delicious 5 course meal inspired by the five different facets of the fragrance: glamorous, captivating, refined, mysterious and sensual. The fragrance itself is rich and warm, and contains touches of Black Raspberry, Italian Bergamot, Red Plum and Ginger. It is billed as “a sensual expression of the original fragrance” and was inspired by the sensual, captivating…

Tom Ford Velvet Orchid: The One

If you’re anything like me, you chop and change between various fragrances, but none of them really hook you to the point that you don’t want to use anything else. For years and years I used Narciso Rodriguez ‘For Her’, and although I loved it, the real reason I stuck with it was because I hadn’t found anything else that grabbed my attention. I am a real sucker for Tom Ford fragrances – I own Black Orchid, Neroli Portifino and now, Velvet Orchid (all thanks to my globe-trotting boyfriend). Ladies, I’m delighted to tell you that Velvet Orchid is ‘The One’. I read…

December Favourites: Camilla

Tom Ford Neroli Portifino Eau de Parfum Summer. Italian Riviera. Sparkling oceans and fresh, lush foliage. Do you want to smell like that? I know I did, and now I do (hopefully)! This gorgeous offering from Tom Ford contains citrus oils and floral notes with amber undertones and is, in my humble opinion, the perfect fresh, zesty scent for the warmer months. To me, it smells clean, cool and above all, sophisticated – everything I want my summer to be. I have been wearing it every day since I got it and have received nothing but compliments. Sometimes I layer…

Lisa Miller Fragrances

I’ll be the first to put my hand up and admit that I know next to nothing about perfume – top notes, base notes…I just can’t seem to identify what’s what, no matter how hard I try. It’s been something I have been keen to learn more about, so when Lisa Miller, a Cape Town based perfumer, contacted Jules and I to discuss her line of fragrances, I jumped at the opportunity to learn more…

Disappointing Product: Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules

Escentric Molecules

Escentric Molecules fragrances are designed to react with your natural pheromones to create an individual scent that is personalised to the wearer. I first learned about this perfume when I was living in London – I couldn’t open a magazine without reading yet another rave review. Molecule 01 is billed as the human equivalent to cat-nip: every man, woman and child who comes near you will be driven wild by your scent. It will leave them in a daze as you drift past them, as though they have been intoxicated by you. Allegedly. I was tempted to buy it then,…

Summer Essentials 2013

Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado: I used to suffer from a dehydrated under-eye area without really knowing it, and found that concealer always looked cakey on that part of my skin. I tried this stuff a couple of months ago and haven’t looked back. The formula is packed with avocado oil and shea butter, and goes on creamy and feels firming without being greasy. The best part is that concealer now goes on smoothly and evenly – result! Price: R280 (14ml) E45 Endless Moisture Daily Care: I generally can’t deal with heavy, creamy body lotions and it’s a non-negotiable especially…

Shimansky Rocks

The Shimansky showroom at the Clocktower in the V&A Waterfront

Last night we were kindly invited to spend the evening at Shimansky‘s showroom in the V&A Waterfront, to get pampered while sipping champagne and draping ourselves in enormous diamonds. It was a tough gig, I have to admit. First up we were given a tour of the Cape Town Diamond Museum, which is adjacent to the showroom, and saw some mouthwatering replicas of the world’s largest diamonds, including The Hope Diamond (which I have seen in real life at the Smithsonian Museum and it would blow your mind), The Taylor Burton, The Star of Africa and the 3,106 carat rough…
