Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer

Smashbox

I have read a lot about Smashbox primers over the years but for some reason I never got around to buying one until recently. As you will no doubt know by now, my skin has gone a bit haywire so I have had to make the most of every cosmetic option available. This primer came home with me last week after a little (read: large) V&A Waterfront spending spree and it has really won me over.

What it claims to do:

  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and pores for visible softer, younger-looking skin.
  • Counteracts discolouration and dark spots.
  • Reduces redness.

Does it deliver?

It does. The formula is really lightweight and leaves the skin feeling super silky (I have to resist the urge to stroke my face after I’ve applied it). It creates the perfect base for foundation and it really does even out the skin tone and minimises the appearance of pores. The green-tone of this primer is a little alarming when it first comes out of the tube, but it does help reduce redness, and it has helped my agitated skin look normal again, which is nothing short of miraculous. As far as longevity goes, I would say that it does slightly prolong the wear of my foundation, but after trying Estée Lauder Double Wear Light, I’m ruined for life – nothing can compare to that in the longevity stakes, primer or no primer.

Smashbox have various primers available to suit every skin type and concern – you can learn more about them here. This one retails for R355.00 and is available from selected Woolworths stores, or online here.
