Favourite Five: Beauty YouTubers

Lisa Eldridge

The godmother of YouTube beauty gurus, Lisa Eldridge has been a professional make-up artist for more than 20 years and works with the world’s most famous faces. She uses a good mix of high- and low-end brands and is extremely accessible, creating looks that are wearable yet imaginative. I just love watching her videos because she makes you feel like a friend and gives good, practical advice on a wide variety of topics. She also has some fantastic Basics videos and Everyday Looks so check those out if you’re a newbie or just want to brush up on the essentials.

Pixiwoo

Pixiwoo are two sisters, Sam and Nic, from Norwich in the UK who are both very talented professional make-up artists. They have 150 million views on their channel and nearly 900 000 subscribers! They do a mixture of tutorials and product reviews, and each have an individual style – Nic likes lots of make-up and perfectly-defined features while Sam is more edgy and likes make-up to be more worn-in. They have an engaging, colloquial style and great personalities that really shine through in their videos. Besides being all over YouTube, they also run a make-up school and publish a free monthly digital magazine which I can highly recommend.

ViviannaDoesMakeup

I can’t remember how I stumbled across Anna’s YouTube channel but I can’t get enough of it! Her approach to beauty is quite similar to mine, in that she doesn’t wear a lot of make-up day-to-day but loves skincare and a good beauty bargain. Her tutorials are simple and easy to follow, and she does plenty of product reviews which usually have me running out the door to buy what she has recommended! She’s cute as a button and is effortlessly cool with her laid-back style and quirky energy. Subscribe now!

Miss Glamorazzi

My favourite thing about Ingrid’s videos is her sheer enthusiasm for beauty and style. She’s an extremely perky American which I know isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love the way she reviews products and especially look forward to her monthly favourites videos for product purchase ideas. Her tutorials are always fun and use a lot of drugstore brands that are available in SA. She also does some great “GIY” (Glam it Yourself) videos with easy ideas for homespun crafts that add a bit of sparkle to everyday life and vlogs regularly on her alternate channel, TheGridMonster.

I Covet Thee

Alix is my hair crush of the decade, for sure! Besides being extremely trendy and having enviable tresses, she rocks a red lip and liquid liner like a pro and her videos are varied, including tutorials, favourites, product reviews and hauls. Her blog features a mixture of fashion and make-up posts and a weekly round-up of her Instagram pics.
